Saddest Day In Rock

Today marks the anniversary of the death of both Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley.  They were two of the most inspirational and influential artists of their time, and were taken away from us much too early.

Take the time today to think about all those in your life that inspire and encourage you to be the best that you can.  And remember, life is only temporary.

Listen to Nirvana and Alice in Chains today.  Enjoy and celebrate the sound of Seattle.

Kurt Donald Cobain: Born February 20, 1967.  Died April 5, 1994.

“If you die you’re completely happy and your soul somewhere lives on. I’m not afraid of dying”

Layne Thomas Staley: Born August 22, 1967.  Died April 5, 2002

“I wish I could just hug you all, but I’m not gonna”

Happy birthday, Mike Starr

Michael Christopher Starr was born on April 3, 1966.  He is best known as the original bassist of Alice In Chains from 1987 to 1993 and briefly played for the band Days Of The New in 2010.

March 8th of this year marked the one year anniversary of his death.  A small memorial was held for him at the EMP in Seattle on March 20, 2011.  Photos of the memorial were released last month in remembrance of his passing.  You can see them here.

Below is one of my favorite Alice In Chains songs.  Listen to this, and remember Mike.

I don’t own anything…all rights reserve to Alice In Chains

Happy birthday, Kurt!

Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 - April 5, 1994)

On February 20, 1967 Kurt Donald Cobain was born at Grays Harbor Hospital in Aberdeen, WA.  As we all know (or should know), Kurt changed the face of rock music, and instigated a social movement with a very strong fan base.  From the beginning, he was completely against trends, major corporations, and industry in general.  In fact he once said “I would rather be dead than cool.”  Ironically, it was this attitude that made him so cool.  Cobain is one of the most talented artists, and he has influenced me in every aspect of my life.

Cobain Memorial, Aberdeen

Despite his death, Cobain’s legacy lives on.  Rolling Stone Magazine rated him the 12th greatest guitarist and the 45th greatest singer of all time.  Although Kurt is no longer with us, he well and alive in the hearts of fans everywhere.

Happy birthday, Kurt.
